Going through my room the other day i found a box of my mums old love letters. Its a huge big box filled with letters from when she was young, before they had fb. When she was about my age there was a boy who must have been her boyfriend when she lived in Noosa. Everything he writes her is so mundane and everyday "Mark, my brother, bought a new car" but there are stacks and stacks of letters all from him. One of them even ha an amazing photo of him wearing a T-shirt that says GOTO 20 30 40 and he is sitting next to the most prehistoric computers i have ever seen. here is an exert from 4 Oct 1982:
Dear Beth
My last letter was in such poor handwriting that i thought i would type this time. It used to be thought unbecoming to type a personal letter, but you will see there is just as much personal touches in this letter.
Mark and I went to a hotel last night to drink and listen to a jazz band. While the commonwealth games are on, most hotels are allowed to open for anything up to 24 Hrs. each day. Brisbane has never had so much entertainment and nightlife. the question is will it all go back to boring normality when the games are over?
Its saturday evening now. i went into town again today and busked in the mall. made about 8 dollars in an hour, then went down to the gardens where there are all these displays and sideshows while the games are on. i busked there for a little while too, until the brass band started. Definitely going back north tomorrow on the Skenners Bus.
Hope you are happy and well. i am thinking about you. And if you laugh at my photo i'll har about it so look out_ I'll twist your knickers on you. I promise to behave, wouldn't want you to smack my bottom. just remember to have a good time and i hope everything s going good for you. Bye now,
Love you,
Wayne.
This guy could have been my dad.
